  1. I am glad to see you back in the saddle (or under the bird as this drawing goes) I am sorry that you are suffering so. It is hard to imagine what this terrible thing is like. Even those who suffer this cannot find ways of communicating it to others. However, you enable one to do that very thing. You help those who do not know this suffering to imagine what it is like to suffer this. At the same time you put into form the description of what it is like. What is even more amazing is that you are able to rise up once again and again to give a precious gift to others. All of your drawings express the most important thing that a human being does in this life. The drawings express hope. No matter how awful the pain drawing may represent, you show that magnificent gift that God gave to man, . . . his wit. A man can be beaten and broken down in so many ways and you have expressed in so many ways what it can be like. Yet, you always rise up again and stand to laugh when you feel like giving up and dying. You are so encumbered under this bird and cannot be seen. Yet, your hand reaches out to show that you are still alive and and you have once again prevailed because your wit can change image of this suffering. One cannot but laugh when one sees your hand still moving. You have once again endured against an irresistible force and you remain alive. I thank God that you live and give hope to so many people who see you rise once again despite the time of oppression since the last drawing. No matter how many time you have been beaten down the last drop of hope has never been lost. You always reach and scrap for it and give form to it. You always reach out to say to the viewer, “I remain alive. I remain in hope. I survive by wit and the grace of God.” You remain a man of hope. On the behalf of all those who suffer from the terrible malady that is growing in this country and around the world, I thank you for what you are doing and continue to do. I thank you for the hope that you give to others.
